A breast uplift (also sometimes known as a mastopexy) is used to improve the appearance of droopy breasts by restoring their original pertness. A breast uplift is suitable for patients who have experienced a loss of volume in their natural breast tissue as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, breastfeeding or the natural ageing process. 

Breast Uplift surgery will be carried out under general anaesthetic and involve an overnight stay in one of our private hospital partners.  Recover from breast uplift surgery can take up to six weeks, certainly, for the first two weeks, we advise our patients to take it easy.

If you are happy with the size of your breasts but perhaps they are droopy or beginning to sag then a breast uplift could be the perfect procedure for you.  You may have noticed that you have more skin on your breasts than breast tissue and this can cause the breasts to sag and the nipples to point down. This may be due to a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy, weight loss or with the natural ageing process. 

Three different types of breast uplift can be carried out by Elanic’s highly experienced consultant plastic surgeons, depending on the degree of droopiness. The procedure can result in some scarring but rest assured that our surgeons are adept at minimizing scarring wherever possible, to leave you with beautifully pert breasts.

There are many different ways to perform a breast uplift and this depends on the size and shape of your breasts. Your cosmetic surgeon will examine you and after the consultation will recommend a type of uplift that will give you the best result.

We like to gently make our patients aware that a breast uplift does not last forever and gravity or pregnancy will affect the shape. However, the operation can be repeated if you so desired.

This surgery is normally carried out under a general anaesthetic and will often involve an overnight stay in the hospital depending on the extent and size of the procedure. Your surgeon will need to mark the size and shape of the breast while you are standing and following the operation you may find that you have two small tubes emerging from each of your breasts so that any collection of blood can drain. These will remain in place for a short period of time.

You will be given painkillers for the discomfort you experience in the first few days. Your surgeon may encourage you to wear a firm bra or dressing following surgery which will continue until the stitches are removed some 10 days to 2 weeks later. You should refrain from strenuous physical exercise including swimming, for a month and you will probably require at least two weeks off work. Over the next 6 to 12 months the scars will gradually fade from red to pale.

Your surgeon will make every effort to make your scars as inconspicuous as possible but it is important to remember that the scars are extensive and permanent. It is not possible to reshape droopy breasts without significant scars for although the use of breast implants alone will improve the fullness they will not deal with any significant drooping. A breast lift will not last forever and the effects of gravity, pregnancy and weight gain will take their toll, as will time.
