There are different reasons for changing breast implants and these can include the removal of PIP implants or a desire to alter the size of your breasts or to remove uncomfortable capsules around longstanding implants. Typically breast implant patients will have them for around 10-15 years and then may opt for an exchange or removal.
Whatever your reason, our plastic surgeons are particularly skilled in the replacement of breast implants. At Elanic clinic Glasgow our aim is to help you to achieve the look you desire, whether that is with bigger breasts, uplifted breasts, or an improved shape of the breasts.
Exchange Of Breast Implants
Performing an exchange of breast implants (also known as a reaugmentation) is more involved than placing breast implants in the first place. For this reason, the operation is slightly longer, usually performed under general anaesthetic, and often requires an overnight stay in one of our private hospital partners. This will be discussed in detail with your surgeon as part of the consultation process.
If you no longer want breast implants it is also possible to remove them and remodel the remaining breast tissue to maximise the cosmetic appearance of the breasts. We usually carry this procedure via the original scar to minimise further scarring to the patient. Elanic utilise high-quality Mentor breast implants owned by Johnson & Johnson when performing an exchange of implants. Implants suitable to you will be discussed and selected as part of your surgical consultation.
How Long Is The Recovery After Exchange Of Breast Implants?
Exchange of implants may need to be performed under or short general anesthetic or it may be possible to perform this treatment as a day case surgery. An exchange of implants usually takes around 1-2 hours. Post-surgery you will be required to wear a post-operative bra for six weeks to provide you with the best possible results. You may experience some swelling and bruising to your breasts and surrounding areas in the days following your procedure this should subside within a week with suitable pain relief.
Any dressings will be removed after a week of your review. We would recommend you take one to two weeks off from work (depending on your occupation). Your total recovery time is around six weeks.
